The movie is the combination of sensuality, thriller and drama.
It is really hard to tell whether Bill Hartford( Tom Cruise) thought about Alice (Nicole Kidman), his wife, cheated on him with the officer is real or not because what he saw in his head is so real but she said she almost cheated on him. He lost himself to the word she said. The setting was intense by the lighting. Most of the scenes are at night on the street. He took a long walk wandering around New York, more of wandering in his mind. Street light are dim like the mood of Bill.
The background noise is timing perfectly to raise the heartbeats and shifted emotionally through out the film. The way the main character are speaking is so slow and polite. Bill is hardly get emotional which is the opposite of Alice who seem to be overcome by her own desire.
The nude scene were put in an art ways. They were both and explanation of consequences of previous activities. For example, the first scene with the naked lady pass out by overdose of drug were referred back to the previous activities that she were doing.
The end of the movie is really unexpected. If the end were stopped at the scene where Bill found the mask on his bed, it would make more impact.
Some parts of the stories are foresee by the action of each character such as the girl that save Bill from the penalty.
A movie is full with what can be expected and unexpected at the same time.
